Kia Sorento Safe Exit Assist visual warning displayed on the instrument cluster screen

While your Kia Sorento is fully stopped, Safe Exit Assist helps prevent accidental side collisions by issuing an immediate visual warning message and audible alarm if a vehicle is detected approaching from behind when a passenger attempts to open a door.

Electronic child safety lock button engaged on the driver door panel of the Kia Sorento

When the electronic child safety lock button is engaged in the LOCK position and Safe Exit Assist detects a vehicle approaching rapidly from the rear corner, the electronic child safety lock switch (Electronic child safety lock icon indicator on the Kia Sorento dashboard button) will remain locked and refuse to unlock, even if the driver manually presses the override button to open the rear doors.

TIP

The precise timing of the alert chime and door lock restraint may vary depending on the closing speed and trajectory of the approaching rear vehicle.

Detection sensor

Please refer to the Detecting Sensor section of your manual for detailed technical specifications and exact physical locations of the rear corner radar units.

TIP

For comprehensive guidance on sensor care and alignment, consult the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) system manual.
