To buckle your seat belt correctly in your Kia Sorento, pull the smooth webbing out of the retractor housing and
insert the metal latch tab (1) directly into the receiving buckle frame (2). Listen for a distinct, audible
“click” to confirm that the latch tab has locked firmly into the buckle assembly.
The 3-point seat belt mechanism automatically adjusts to the proper restraint length only after you manually pull and
align the lower lap belt portion so that it fits snugly across your hips and pelvis. Under normal driving
conditions,
leaning forward in a smooth, gradual motion allows the belt webbing to extend freely for comfortable body movement.
However, during hard braking, sharp cornering, or a collision impact, the emergency locking retractor immediately
locks the belt in position to secure the occupant. The retractor mechanism will also lock automatically if you
attempt
to lean forward too quickly.
CAUTION
Position the lower lap belt portion as low as possible so that it fits tightly across your pelvic hip bones
rather
than your stomach. Placing the lap belt high over the soft abdominal area greatly increases the force placed on
internal organs during a crash, raising the risk of severe injury in your Kia Sorento.
Position your body so that the arm closest to the center console sits over the seat belt strap, while your
outboard
arm stays under the shoulder belt, exactly as illustrated in the reference diagram. Never wear the diagonal
shoulder
belt under the arm nearest to the door.
NOTE
If the seat belt webbing jams or locks while pulling it out from the retractor, firmly tug the belt outward once
and then release it completely. Allowing the retractor to reel back in slightly will unlock the safety reel,
allowing you to pull the seat belt out smoothly.
Releasing the seat belt
To unfasten the restraint system, press the red release button (1) integrated into the locking buckle housing.
Once the metal latch tab is disengaged, the belt webbing should automatically retract back into its storage
compartment. If the belt does not reel back in smoothly, check the length of the webbing to verify it is not twisted
or caught on surrounding trim, then assist it back into the retractor reel.
Adjusting the height of shoulder belt
To optimize protection and personal comfort, you can adjust the vertical height of the upper shoulder belt anchor to
1 of 4 distinct locked positions inside your Kia Sorento.
The height of the adjusted shoulder belt must never cross directly against your neck or face, as an improperly
positioned strap compromises restraint performance and can lead to serious neck injuries during a collision. The
diagonal shoulder strap should be aligned so that it lies flat across the center of your chest and midway over the
shoulder closest to the vehicle door.
To adjust the height of the shoulder belt anchor on the pillar, move the slider up or down into the target locking
slot:
To raise the shoulder belt height adjuster, push the anchor assembly straight up.
To lower the shoulder belt height adjuster, press and hold the lock release button (1) while sliding the anchor
downward.
Release the adjustment button to lock the shoulder anchor into position. Always pull or push on the height adjuster
assembly after setting it to verify that the anchor is fully locked into its slot before driving.
WARNING
Shoulder Belt Positioning
Always verify that the adjustable shoulder belt anchor is firmly locked into position at the correct height.
Never
allow the shoulder strap to sit across your neck, throat, or face. An improperly positioned seat belt cannot
hold
your torso securely in a crash and can cause fatal or severe injuries.
WARNING
Seat Belt Replacement After Collision
Following any vehicle crash or impact, replace the entire seat belt assembly, including retractors, buckles, and
mounting hardware, even if visible damage to the webbing or latches is not immediately apparent. Damaged or
stretched belt components can fail in subsequent impacts; always replace any restraint system that does not
operate
perfectly.
A properly secured seat belt system requires that each metal latch tab is clicked into the matching buckle receiver
on its respective seat cushion inside your Kia Sorento.

WARNING
Before buckling rear passengers, ensure that each latch tab is inserted into its designated seat belt buckle.
Forcefully inserting a side seat belt latch tab into the center seat buckle will prevent proper locking
engagement
and fail to protect the occupant during a crash in your Kia Sorento.
Stowing the rear seat belt
When not in use, the rear seat belt buckles can be neatly stowed away in the storage pockets located between the rear
seatback cushion and lower seat cushion to maintain a clean cabin layout.

Route the shoulder belt webbing cleanly through the side panel seat belt guides. Using these clip guides
prevents
the belt webbing from becoming pinched, twisted, or trapped behind the seatbacks when folding or adjusting seats
in
your Kia Sorento.

After threading the seat belt into the routing clip, gently pull the belt webbing upward to remove any remaining
slack and secure it neatly against the trim panel.
TIP
When unhooking or pulling out the seat belt to wear it, extract the metal latch tab slowly from the side
guide
clip so the plastic guide trim does not pop off or detach from the interior side panel of your Kia
Sorento.
