Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / Opening and Closing / Windows / Window opening and closing

Opening and closing cabin windows on the Kia Sorento is controlled directly using the individual power window switches on each door panel.

Type A - Standard manual control switch

Operating Type A standard manual power window switch on the Kia Sorento to first detent position

To manually lower or raise the window glass, press down or pull up the front edge of the matching door window switch to its initial detent position (1). Hold the switch until the glass reaches your preferred level, then release it to hold position.

Type B - Auto up/down one-touch window system (if equipped)

Operating Type B one-touch auto up down power window switch on the Kia Sorento to second detent position

Pressing down or pulling up the auto power window switch fully past the pressure point to its second detent position (2) engages one-touch operation, automatically lowering or raising the Kia Sorento window glass completely without needing to hold the switch. If you wish to interrupt window movement at a specific height while it is automatically traveling, simply press or pull the switch briefly in the opposite direction and release.

Resetting the automatic power window system

If the automatic power window system loses memory calibration or fails to operate smoothly (such as following a battery discharge or disconnect), perform the system reset procedure as outlined below:

  1. Switch the ignition state or ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.

  2. Pull up the power window switch to close the window glass completely, continuing to hold the switch upward for at least 1 full second after the window has sealed firmly into the upper door frame.

Automatic reversal safety system (if equipped)

Diagram showing automatic reversal jam protection mechanism reversing window movement on the Kia Sorento

If the auto-up window glass encounters physical resistance from an object or body part while closing, safety sensors automatically halt upward movement. The system will immediately reverse direction and lower the window glass by approximately 11.8 inches (30 cm) to allow safe removal of the obstruction.

If continuous resistance is sensed while you actively hold the power window switch upward, upward travel stops and the glass reverses downward by roughly 1 inch (2.5 cm).

If you pull up and hold the window switch continuously within 5 seconds after an automatic reversal event takes place, the auto-reversal safety feature will be temporarily bypassed for manual override closing.

TIP

The anti-pinch safety reversal feature functions exclusively when utilizing the express "auto up" mode engaged by pulling the switch fully to its second position. The safety reverse mechanism does not activate if you adjust the window manually using the first switch detent position.

NOTE

Always inspect window openings to confirm they are clear of arms, hands, or cargo before closing the window glass. Extremely thin objects measuring under 0.16 inches (4 mm) in thickness caught between the top edge of the glass and the upper weatherstrip channel may not generate enough mechanical resistance to trigger the auto-reversal mechanism.

WARNING

The automatic reversal safety feature is completely disabled while initializing or resetting the Kia Sorento power window control system. Always ensure all passengers keep hands, fingers, and foreign objects well away from moving window glass to avoid severe pinch injury.

NOTE

Refrain from installing non-OEM accessories, aftermarket sunshades, or clips that clip into the window glass channel, as these items can interfere with smooth operation and trigger false auto-reversal events.
