Kia Sorento: Operating the power liftgate
|
|
Press and hold the dedicated power liftgate control button located on your smart key fob or to the left of the steering wheel on the driver dashboard for approximately 1 second. The liftgate initiates automatic movement accompanied by an audible chime. Tapping the button a second time while the panel is moving pauses the tailgate at its current angle.
If the smart key moves out of effective wireless signal range (approximately 30 feet or 10 meters) during powered movement, the system halts operation and sounds an alert chime for 5 seconds to notify the user.
|
|
When the Kia Sorento tailgate is shut, press the exterior release switch hidden under the rear handle trim to engage the automatic opening cycle.
If the vehicle doors are locked, ensure you have the smart key on your person within the detection zone near the rear bumper before pressing the exterior switch button.
If the vehicle doors are already unlocked, pressing the exterior handle button automatically opens or closes the rear hatch with an alert chime, even if the smart key fob is not detected nearby.
|
To lower and latch the open hatch from the rear cargo area, press the interior power liftgate switch located along the bottom edge of the open door panel to initiate powered closing.
If the Kia Sorento power liftgate encounters mechanical resistance or physical contact with an object during operation, the safety pinch system automatically stops movement or reverses direction to fully open the hatch. However, the auto-reverse system may not engage properly or can trigger unexpectedly under certain environmental circumstances:
The safety sensors may fail to register slight resistance forces below set thresholds, particularly during the final closing inch as the latch approaches the striker loop.
Slamming or forcefully pulling the moving hatch panel manually may trigger false obstacle detection and cause the auto-reverse feature to engage unexpectedly.
WARNING
Never intentionally place hands, feet, body parts, or valuable objects in the direct path of the moving tailgate to test the auto-reverse sensor mechanism. Doing so risks severe pinch injury or structural body damage to your Kia Sorento.
TIP
If the auto-reverse safety feature trips 2 consecutive times during a single cycle, automatic operation disables temporarily. To reset the drive mechanism, guide the hatch fully open or closed manually, wait 30 seconds, and resume normal power liftgate operation.
