Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / Seating and Safety Restraints / Child Restraint System (CRS) / Installing a child restraint system (CRS)

After selecting a compatible child seat for your child, verify that it fits firmly and securely in your vehicle before traveling.

Always follow the exact mounting steps supplied by the child seat manufacturer during installation. Keep the following fundamental procedural principles in mind when mounting a child seat in your Kia Sorento:

  1. Properly secure the child restraint to the vehicle frame. All child seats must be anchored directly to the vehicle using either the lap belt section of a lap/shoulder belt or the integrated LATCH anchor points.
  2. Verify that the child restraint is firmly anchored. After completing the installation, firmly push and pull the child seat forward and side-to-side at the belt path to confirm tight attachment. A seat belt-secured CRS should be anchored as tightly as possible, though up to one inch of side-to-side movement at the belt path is normal.
  3. Secure the child inside the CRS harness. Ensure your child is buckled tightly into the child seat harness following the precise adjustment guidelines provided by the seat manufacturer.
