Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / What to do in an emergency / In case of an emergency while driving

When unexpected emergencies arise while piloting your Kia Sorento, maintain your composure and execute these structured safety steps:

If the vehicle stalls while driving

  1. Gradually ease off the accelerator and let your vehicle slow down naturally while maintaining a straight trajectory.
  2. Steer the vehicle cautiously off the active travel lane to a secure location on the roadside.
  3. Activate your hazard warning lights immediately to signal other motorists.
  4. Attempt to restart your Kia Sorento engine. If the vehicle fails to fire up, reach out to an authorized Kia dealer for towing and repair assistance.

If the engine stalls at a crossroad or junction

If your engine cuts out unexpectedly in the middle of a busy intersection or junction, shift the transmission immediately into N (Neutral) and safely push your Kia Sorento out of traffic to a secure refuge.

If you have a flat tire while driving

  1. Lift your foot smoothly off the accelerator pedal and allow your Kia Sorento to decelerate naturally while keeping the steering wheel straight.

Avoid slamming on the brakes or jerking the steering wheel to pull off the road abruptly, as sudden maneuvers can cause a dangerous loss of vehicle control.

  2. Once the vehicle has coasted down to a manageable and safe speed, apply gentle braking pressure and guide the car toward the shoulder.
  3. Pull as far off the asphalt as possible, ensuring you park on firm, level ground.

If you experience a blowout on a divided highway, refrain from stopping in the open median zone situated between opposing lanes of high-speed traffic.

  4. Once the vehicle is fully immobilized, turn your hazard lights ON, pull up the electronic parking brake securely, and shift the gear selector into P (Park).
  5. Instruct all passengers to exit the vehicle promptly, ensuring they step out exclusively on the side facing away from passing traffic.
  6. When you are ready to replace the damaged wheel, follow the comprehensive tire-changing procedures detailed later in this section.
