Kia Sorento: Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)When pulling away from a complete stop on a steep incline, a vehicle naturally tends to roll backward due to gravity. To eliminate this roll-back hazard, the Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) system in your Kia Sorento automatically maintains hydraulic brake pressure for approximately two seconds after you release the brake pedal.
The HAC system smoothly releases the holding brake pressure after roughly two seconds, or the exact moment you press the accelerator pedal to drive forward.
Because the HAC system only holds the vehicle stationary for about two seconds, always be prepared to transition your foot swiftly to the accelerator pedal when starting your vehicle on a hill.
WARNING
Maintaining brake pressure on an incline
Hill-start Assist Control does not eliminate your responsibility to engage the foot brake when stopped on steep inclines. While idling stationary on a slope, ensure you maintain sufficient pedal pressure to prevent your Kia Sorento from rolling backward and risking a collision. Never remove your foot from the brake pedal until you are fully prepared to accelerate.
