Kia Sorento: Defogging the inside of the windshield with the automatic climate control. Defrosting the outside of the windshield with the automatic climate control. AUTO defogging system: (if equipped)
When utilizing the advanced automatic climate control system equipped in your Kia Sorento to clear internal window fog, follow this procedure:
External fresh air intake is automatically selected, and the air conditioning compressor modulates according to detected ambient temperature conditions.
If fresh air intake and A/C are not selected automatically, press the corresponding buttons on the control panel
manually. Furthermore, if you switch to the
mode during
operation, the system will dynamically adjust initial lower blower speeds upward to accelerate defogging efficiency.
To effortlessly defrost the exterior surface of the windshield using the advanced automatic climate control system integrated into your Kia Sorento, simply follow these precise operational steps:
External fresh airflow is automatically selected by the system, and the air conditioning compressor engages appropriately based on real-time ambient temperature readings to maximize glass clearance.
The intelligent AUTO defogging system engineered into the Kia Sorento actively monitors internal humidity levels on the inner surface of the windshield, automatically working to prevent visual obstruction before condensation can accumulate.

The AUTO defogging system functions automatically whenever the vehicle's heating or air conditioning (A/C) system is turned ON.
A dedicated AUTO defogging indicator will illuminate on your instrument cluster display whenever the system actively engages to clear the glass.
If elevated humidity levels are detected inside the cabin of your Kia Sorento, the AUTO defogging logic will instantly initiate correction procedures.
The following automated adjustments are performed seamlessly without driver intervention:
The air conditioning (A/C) compressor engages automatically.
The air intake control switches over to external fresh airflow when outside temperatures are low.
The climate distribution mode shifts directly to defrost, directing warm, dry airflow toward the windshield.
The blower fan speed increases to accelerate moisture removal.
To cancel or reset the automated defogging system:
Press and hold the front windshield defroster button continuously for 3 seconds while the ENGINE START/STOP ignition button is in the ON position.
When the AUTO defogging feature is successfully canceled, the defroster button indicator light will blink exactly 3 times.
When the AUTO defogging system is successfully reset or restored, the defroster button indicator will blink 6 times without an accompanying audio signal.
If you attempt to manually turn the air conditioning OFF while the AUTO defogging system is actively engaged, the indicator will blink 3 times and the A/C will remain active to protect visibility inside your Kia Sorento.
To maintain peak effectiveness and operational efficiency of the AUTO defogging system, avoid selecting recirculated air intake while the system is actively managing cabin humidity.
When AUTO defogging is operating in the background, manual inputs for the fan speed adjustment knob, temperature control dial, and air intake button are temporarily disabled.
NOTE: Never detach, tamper with, or remove the specialized sensor cover positioned at the top center of the driver's side windshield glass. Doing so can cause permanent damage to sensitive defogging components, which may not be covered under your vehicle warranty.
