Kia Sorento: Safe Exit Warning malfunction and limitations
|
(A) Check side view mirror warning light |
When Safe Exit Warning is not working properly, the Master warning light (

the
instrument cluster, along with a diagnostic warning message that remains visible for several seconds. If the
function
does not work properly, visit an authorized Kia dealer for professional service.

(A) Check side view mirror warning light |
When the outside rearview mirror warning light mechanism is not working properly, the Master warning light (
) appears on the instrument cluster,
accompanied by a diagnostic warning message that stays active for several seconds.
Have Safe Exit Warning thoroughly inspected by an authorized Kia service professional.
Safe Exit Warning disabled
When foreign material (such as accumulated heavy snow or driving rain) covers the rear bumper near the rear corner radar sensors, or when you attach an aftermarket or factory trailer/carrier, it can significantly reduce detection performance and temporarily limit or disable Safe Exit Warning functionality.
|
(A) Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked. |
A notification warning message and the Master warning light (
) display clearly on the
instrument cluster. This temporary notification does not indicate a permanent hardware malfunction of Safe Exit
Warning.
Safe Exit Warning will resume normal operation once you thoroughly remove any foreign material (such as snow or mud) from the sensor zones or clear physical obstructions (such as a towed trailer or cargo carrier) from the rear bumper area, and then restart the vehicle.
If Safe Exit Warning still fails to operate properly after you clear all foreign buildup from the sensors or remove rear bumper obstructions, have your vehicle inspected promptly by an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
Even when a warning message does not appear on the instrument cluster, Safe Exit Warning may occasionally be restricted and fail to operate properly under adverse environmental conditions.
Safe Exit Warning may not operate correctly in wide open terrain where no reflective background objects are detected, or when the radar sensors are immediately obscured by environmental elements right after turning ON the vehicle.
TIP
You can check the real-time operational status of Safe Exit Warning directly within the service message center of the utility information view on your instrument cluster display window.
TIP
Turn OFF Safe Exit Warning through the menu when preparing to install or remove a trailer, carrier, or external accessory attachment. Remember to turn Safe Exit Warning back ON once your equipment setup is successfully completed.
Safe Exit Warning on your Kia Sorento may operate abnormally or unexpectedly, or experience temporary detection delays, under specific real-world driving conditions such as:
You exit the vehicle in locations with dense, overgrown foliage, tall grass, or roadside bushes that partially obscure the rear radar sensors.
You exit the vehicle where the road surface is wet, flooded, or covered in slush, causing excessive spray and signal reflection.
An approaching target vehicle is moving extremely fast relative to traffic flow or crawling at a very slow rate of speed.
TIP
For detailed information regarding the rear corner radar locations, calibration, and maintenance, please refer to the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) section.
WARNING
Safe Exit Warning may experience performance degradation or fail to operate properly in areas with high electromagnetic fields or strong radio frequency interference.
Safe Exit Warning may not activate immediately and requires approximately 3 seconds to initialize after you turn ON the vehicle or reset the rear corner radars.
Even after restarting your Kia Sorento, Safe Exit Warning will remain inactive or function improperly if a physical radar obstruction or internal system fault persists.
Operation of the radar hardware installed on the Kia Sorento is subject to the following two conditions:
This device may not cause harmful interference to other licensed spectrum users, and
this device must accept any interference received, including unwanted interference that may cause undesired operation of the system.
TIP
Any changes or physical modifications made to the system components that are not expressly approved by the compliance party could void the user’s authority to operate this equipment.
