Kia Sorento: Safe Exit Assist settings. Safe Exit Assist operation. Warning and control
|
|
|
While the vehicle ignition is ON, access the infotainment touchscreen and select Setup > Vehicle > Driver Assistance > Driving Safety > Safe Exit to activate or customize the Safe Exit Assist features for your Kia Sorento.
WARNING
Always stay alert and visually check your surroundings. If you manually deselect the Safe Exit feature, Safe Exit Assist cannot provide warnings or lock the doors to protect exiting occupants.
CAUTION
When a genuine Kia Trailer Kit is installed and its electrical connector is plugged into your Kia Sorento, Safe Exit Assist automatically turns OFF to avoid false triggers. Under these conditions, the system cannot assist exiting passengers, so exercise increased personal caution. (A genuine Kia Trailer Kit automatically detects when a trailer electrical harness is securely connected.)
NOTE
When you turn off and restart the Kia Sorento, Safe Exit Assist automatically retains its last configured user setting.

|
To modify the Warning Methods settings while the vehicle is powered ON, navigate to Setup > Vehicle > Driver Assistance > Warning Methods on the Kia Sorento touch display. You can customize the following warning preferences:
Warning Volume: Adjusts the output volume level for driver assistance warning chimes. If you set the Warning Volume to OFF, the safety system may still sound a quiet warning alert for critical safety events.
Driving Safety Priority: Automatically lowers the volume of active media audio playback whenever a vehicle Driving Safety system triggers an audible alert chime.
TIP
Adjustments made within the Warning Methods menu may simultaneously apply to notification preferences across other integrated driver assistance features in your Kia Sorento.
Configured Warning Methods retain their customized values even after the engine is turned OFF and restarted.
The layout and options available within the Warning Methods menu may vary slightly depending on your Kia Sorento trim level and regional specifications.
Safe Exit Assist actively safeguards your Kia Sorento by performing the following core protective actions:
Collision Warning (when exiting the vehicle): Alerts passengers to rear hazards in real time.
Safe Exit Assist linked to Electronic child safety lock: Automatically restrains rear doors when approaching traffic poses a threat.
Collision Warning (when exiting the vehicle)
|
|
|
(A) Collision Warning
The integrated warning indicator light located on the outside rearview mirror flashes rapidly, an explicit warning notification message appears on the driver instrument cluster screen, and a distinct audible chime sounds to alert occupants.
Collision Warning actively monitors the environment and issues alerts when exiting your Kia Sorento under the following precise operating parameters:
Your vehicle speed: below 2 mph (3 km/h)
The speed of an approaching vehicle from the rear: above 4 mph (6 km/h)
Safe Exit Assist linked to Electronic child safety lock
|
|
(A) Check traffic in the blind spot, then try again |
The warning light on the outside rearview mirror blinks continuously and an informative warning message appears directly on the instrument cluster display.
The Safe Exit Assist system linked to the Electronic child safety lock operates under the following precise circumstances:
Your vehicle speed is below 2 mph (3 km/h)
The speed of a vehicle approaching from the rear: above 4 mph (6 km/h)
TIP
For more detailed information regarding the operation and features of the Electronic child safety lock button, refer to the Electronic child safety lock system manual section.
TIP
If you press the Electronic child safety lock button within 10 seconds after a warning message appears, Safe Exit Assist determines that you have safely unlocked the doors while acknowledging the rear traffic status. The Electronic child safety lock turns OFF (as clearly shown on the button indicator light) and the rear doors unlock. Always verify your surroundings visually before pressing the Electronic child safety lock button.
TIP
If you or another person attempt to open a rear door of your Kia Sorento from the outside, the door opens normally regardless of Safe Exit Assist operation.
TIP
For your absolute personal safety, change your vehicle configuration settings only after parking the Kia Sorento at a secure location.
Safe Exit Assist may fail to display a visual warning message or generate an audible chime if another higher-priority vehicle function warning message or sound is triggered simultaneously.
You might not hear the warning sound if your surrounding traffic or cabin environment is exceptionally noisy.
Safe Exit Assist does not operate in all conceivable traffic situations and cannot physically prevent every potential collision.
Safe Exit Assist may provide a delayed warning or fail to warn you depending on complex external road and driving conditions. Always double-check your surroundings visually.
You and your passengers bear sole legal responsibility for any accidents or incidents that occur while exiting the vehicle. Always verify that your path is clear before opening any door.
Do not intentionally test the limits of Safe Exit Assist, as doing so may result in serious injury or death.
TIP
After you turn OFF the ignition of your Kia Sorento, Safe Exit Assist continues to operate for approximately 3 minutes to protect exiting passengers, but deactivates immediately if you lock all doors from the outside.
The displayed graphics, icons, or interface colors may vary slightly depending on your instrument cluster display specifications or theme selections.
