Kia Sorento: Rear View Monitor malfunction and limitations
When the Rear View Monitor system encounters an internal electronic fault or signal interruption, the camera output image on your dashboard display may temporarily tint green, turn completely blue, or show a black screen.
Schedule a service appointment with an authorized Kia dealer if your Rear View Monitor fails to operate correctly, experiences persistent screen flickering, or does not render crisp camera imagery.
If your vehicle remains stationary for extended periods during freezing winter weather or is parked inside an enclosed underground parking structure, engine and exhaust condensation fumes may temporarily drift past the lens and blur the camera image.
The monitor display may also present distorted or obstructed visuals under specific environmental circumstances:
When the rear tailgate liftgate is left open or unsecured.
The Wide Rear View camera lens does not cover 100 percent of the blind spots directly behind your Kia Sorento. Always physically inspect the area behind your vehicle using both your interior rearview mirror and exterior side mirrors before reversing out of a parking space.
Distances perceived on the Rear View Monitor screen can occasionally deviate from real-world measurements due to wide-angle lens calibration geometry. If your vehicle is heavily loaded with cargo causing the rear suspension to tilt, the projected Rear Parking Guidelines may lose accuracy. Always rely on a direct visual check of your surroundings when moving your vehicle.
Always keep the exterior wide-rear camera lens crystal clean to ensure peak optical performance from your Rear View Monitor. Never clean the sensitive camera lens using abrasive chemical solvents or harsh alkaline detergents containing volatile organic compounds such as gasoline or acetone.
Driving your Kia Sorento with the liftgate open creates an unsafe operating state. Exercise extreme caution and maintain heightened awareness if you must transport oversized cargo under such conditions.
