Kia Sorento: Parking brake (foot type): (if equipped)
|
Always apply the parking brake securely before exiting your Kia Sorento.
To apply the foot-operated parking brake:
NOTE
To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, never apply the parking brake while your vehicle is moving unless it is an emergency. Doing so can damage the braking mechanism and cause a dangerous skid or accident.
|
To release the parking brake safely:
If the parking brake mechanism fails to release completely or only partially disengages, have your Kia Sorento inspected immediately by an authorized service center.
WARNING
When parking or leaving your vehicle, always bring it to a complete stop while maintaining firm pressure on the brake pedal. Ensure you shift the transmission into P (Park), apply the parking brake fully, and press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the LOCK/OFF position.
Vehicles parked without the parking brake securely engaged run a severe risk of rolling inadvertently, which can lead to catastrophic property damage, severe injury, or death.
NEVER allow an unattended passenger or any individual unfamiliar with your vehicle controls to touch or manipulate the parking brake. Unintentional release of the mechanism can cause sudden vehicle movement and dangerous accidents.
Only disengage the parking brake when you are properly seated in the driver's seat with your foot positioned securely on the brake pedal.
NOTE
Do not press the accelerator pedal while the parking brake remains engaged. Doing so will trigger an audible warning chime and can cause premature thermal wear or mechanical damage to your Kia Sorento braking system.
Driving continuously with the parking brake applied generates excessive friction heat, rapidly wearing out the brake components. Always verify that the parking brake is fully released and the corresponding Brake Warning Light is completely OFF prior to driving.
WARNING
Never allow a passenger or anyone who is unfamiliar with your vehicle to touch the parking brake. If the parking brake is released unintentionally, serious injury or death may occur.

Check the operational status of the Brake Warning Light by toggling the ENGINE START/STOP button into the START or ON position without starting the engine itself. The indicator light illuminates automatically when the parking brake is applied while the electrical system is active.
Before putting your Kia Sorento into motion, double-check that the parking brake is completely released and the dashboard warning light is extinguished.
If the Brake Warning Light remains illuminated after you disengage the parking brake while the engine is running, it indicates an active fault within the brake system that demands immediate professional attention.
If safe, halt your journey immediately. If stopping right away is not feasible, exercise extreme caution and operate your vehicle only as far as necessary to reach a secure location or nearby repair shop.
