Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / Seating and Safety Restraints / Air bag - Advanced Supplemental Restraint System / Occupant Detection System (ODS)

The front passenger seating position of the Kia Sorento features an advanced Occupant Detection System (ODS) designed to enhance restraint efficiency and help prevent unnecessary deployment risks.

Occupant Detection System sensor placement in the front passenger seat cushion of a Kia Sorento

The ODS detects whether the front passenger seat is occupied by an adult, a child restraint system, or an object, automatically deciding whether to enable or disengage the passenger-side front airbag module. Note that the ODS strictly manages the front passenger front airbag and does not alter side airbag or seat belt pretensioner operation.

Never place stickers, accessories, or objects over the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF (Passenger Air Bag Off warning symbol icon) indicator window on the overhead console, as clear visibility of this status light is critical for verifying passenger protection.
