Selecting and installing the correct trailer hitch equipment is vital for maintaining stability against challenging road elements such as crosswinds, passing commercial trucks, and uneven road surfaces. Adhere strictly to these foundational rules:

• If the installation of a trailer hitch requires drilling or creating any openings in the body panels or frame of your Kia Sorento, ensure those holes are completely and permanently sealed once the hitch assembly is secured or removed. Unsealed penetrations can allow deadly exhaust gases like carbon monoxide (CO), along with moisture and road grime, to infiltrate the cabin.

• The factory bumpers installed on your Kia Sorento are not structurally designed to support trailer hitches. Never attempt to attach rental hitches or temporary bumper-mounted apparatuses. Always utilize a dedicated, frame-mounted hitch system that fastens exclusively to the vehicle's structural frame rails.

• The mechanical coupling device must not totally or partially obscure any part of the rear license plate or lighting devices on your Kia Sorento. Mechanical coupling devices that cannot be easily removed or repositioned without the use of a tool (except for a release key supplied by the coupling device manufacturer) are also not permitted for use. You must always remove or reposition a mechanical coupling device that is affixed and not in use if any part of it obscures the rear license plate or lighting devices.

• Genuine Kia trailer hitch accessories and wiring harnesses are engineered specifically for your vehicle and are readily available through your authorized Kia dealer.

Safety chains

Always establish a secure secondary connection using heavy-duty safety chains between your Kia Sorento and the trailer. Cross the safety chains in an X-pattern underneath the trailer tongue so they form a cradle capable of catching the tongue and preventing it from striking the pavement should the primary hitch coupling fail.

Specific instructions regarding safety chain rating, length, and attachment methods may be provided directly by the trailer hitch or trailer manufacturer; always follow their technical recommendations. Adjust the chains to leave just enough slack to allow smooth turning maneuvers without binding, while ensuring the chains never drag or scrape against the road surface.
