Kia Sorento Immobilizer SystemThe integrated immobilizer system protects your Kia Sorento against unauthorized access and vehicle theft. If an improperly coded key, unauthorized mechanical duplicate, or non-recognized transponder device is detected, the vehicle's engine control unit automatically disables the power system to prevent startup.
When you switch the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position, the immobilizer system status indicator on the instrument cluster illuminates briefly to perform a diagnostic check before turning off. If this security light begins to blink continuously, it indicates that the system does not recognize the unique transponder code of your key.
To clear a temporary transponder signal misread, switch the ENGINE START/STOP button back to the OFF position, wait a few seconds, and then place the switch into the ON position once again.
If the vehicle repeatedly fails to authenticate the key's transponder coding and the indicator continues flashing, contact an authorized Kia dealer for diagnostic evaluation and key programming.
Do not attempt to modify, bypass, or attach unapproved electronic devices to the security circuit. Unauthorized alterations can trigger severe electrical conflicts that may render your Kia Sorento completely inoperable.
Deactivating the immobilizer system
To disarm the immobilizer protection and prepare the vehicle for operation, simply turn the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position using a registered transponder key.
Activating the immobilizer system
Whenever you switch the ENGINE START/STOP button to the OFF position, the immobilizer system activates automatically. Without an authenticated, officially registered smart key present inside your Kia Sorento, the engine start circuit remains locked.
NOTE
When starting your Kia Sorento, ensure that no other key fobs equipped with transponders are located nearby or on the same key ring. Nearby transponders can create signal interference, preventing the vehicle from starting or causing the engine to stall shortly after ignition. Keep each smart key separate to avoid electronic interference.
NOTE
If you require spare keys, duplicate transponders, or need to erase a misplaced key from the vehicle memory, visit an authorized Kia dealer dealer service department.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

TIP

If the keyless entry or immobilizer system becomes inoperative due to unapproved aftermarket modifications, all resulting repairs will be excluded from your Kia Sorento manufacturer warranty coverage.
