Turning on Highway Driving Assist

Highway Driving Assist is designed to enhance your driving comfort on eligible controlled-access roads when the following conditions are met:

Restarting after stopping

Acceleration Control Operational Instruction
Kia Sorento steering wheel switches used for resuming speed control

(A) Use the steering wheel switch or accelerator pedal to resume vehicle movement.

During Highway Driving Assist operation, the Kia Sorento will automatically bring the vehicle to a complete stop if the vehicle ahead of you halts. If the vehicle in front resumes movement within 30 seconds, your vehicle will automatically begin moving as well. However, if the stationary vehicle does not move within 30 seconds, a warning message will appear on your instrument cluster. To resume driving, you must either gently press the accelerator pedal or activate the system by toggling the (Switch icon), (Switch icon), or (Switch icon) switch.

Hands-off warning

Warning Indicator Requirement

(A) For safety, please keep your hands on the steering wheel.

If the system detects that you have removed your hands from the steering wheel for an extended period, the Kia Sorento will trigger a two-stage warning process to ensure driver engagement:

System Deactivation Status Update

(A) Highway Driving Assist has been automatically deactivated.

If you fail to place your hands back on the steering wheel following the secondary warning, the Highway Driving Assist feature will be automatically canceled for your safety.

Driving the speed limit

Speed Restriction Warning Context

(A) Driver's grasp not detected; driving speed will be limited.

Should the hands-off warning result in the cancellation of Highway Driving Assist, the Kia Sorento will enforce a speed limitation. During this Driving Speed Limit phase, a continuous warning message and audible chime will be active on the instrument cluster to inform the driver.

Driving to one side within lane: (if equipped)

Lane Positioning System Response

When traveling at speeds above 40 mph (60 km/h), if the Kia Sorento detects a nearby vehicle in close proximity, the system will subtly adjust steering input to move your vehicle toward the opposite side of the lane for enhanced safety. Note that if the system detects vehicles closely approaching on both sides simultaneously, this corrective steering behavior will be suppressed to avoid unintended lane movement.

Highway Driving Assist standby

If the Smart Cruise Control functionality is temporarily paused or canceled while Highway Driving Assist is active, the system will enter a standby state. During this time, the Lane Following Assist feature will continue to operate independently to help keep the Kia Sorento centered.

NOTE

  • The Driving Speed Limit feature may assist in keeping vehicle speed below 40 mph (60 km/h) depending on traffic conditions; however, after the Kia Sorento decelerates, it cannot automatically resume acceleration.
  • The Driving Speed Limit mode will automatically be canceled under the following scenarios:
    • When you securely grasp the steering wheel again.
    • When you toggle Lane Following Assist ON via the Lane Driving Assist button.
    • When you operate the (Switch), (Switch), or (Switch) switch, the (Switch) button, or engage either the accelerator or brake pedal.
