Kia Sorento: Gauges - Instrument cluster - Driver AdjustmentsKia Sorento: Gauges

Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / Driver Adjustments / Instrument cluster / Gauges

The precision instrument gauges on your Kia Sorento provide real-time operational data, displaying vehicle velocity, engine performance metrics, fuel status, and thermal conditions to keep you fully informed while driving.

Speedometer

Figure 2. Type B
Type B digital speedometer interface screen in a Kia Sorento

The speedometer clearly shows your current driving speed and is dual-calibrated to display metrics in both miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h) depending on your regional preferences.

Tachometer

Figure 1. Type A

Figure 2. Type B
Type B tachometer display layout showing RPM levels in a Kia Sorento

The tachometer measures and displays the approximate speed of your engine in revolutions per minute (rpm).

Monitor the tachometer closely to select optimal gear shift points, ensuring smooth acceleration and preventing engine lugging or excessive revving.

NOTE

Never operate the engine while the tachometer needle is sustained within the red warning zone. Doing so can cause severe mechanical engine failure.

Engine coolant temperature gauge

Figure 1. Type A
Type A engine coolant temperature gauge layout on a Kia Sorento instrument panel
Figure 2. Type B
Type B digital temperature gauge display on a Kia Sorento dashboard

This thermal gauge displays the operational temperature of your engine coolant whenever the ENGINE START/STOP ignition button is switched to the ON position.

NOTE

If the gauge indicator needle moves past the normal operating zone toward the “H” (Hot) marker, it signals engine overheating that risks major internal damage.

Never continue driving if your engine is overheating. Pull over safely and refer to the vehicle manual instructions for dealing with an overheated engine.

WARNING

Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Pressurized coolant can erupt and cause severe scalding burns. Always wait until the engine cools down completely before inspecting or topping off coolant levels in the reservoir.

Fuel gauge

Figure 1. Type A
Type A analog fuel gauge display showing remaining fuel level in a Kia Sorento dashboard
Figure 2. Type B
Type B digital fuel gauge interface on a Kia Sorento instrument cluster screen

This precision gauge displays the approximate amount of fuel remaining in your Kia Sorento fuel tank, helping you monitor your driving range effectively.

TIP

CAUTION

Fuel gauge

Allowing your vehicle to run completely out of fuel places all occupants in dangerous roadside situations.

You must safely pull over and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible if the low fuel warning indicator turns on or when the gauge needle approaches the “E” (Empty) mark.

NOTE

Avoid driving your Kia Sorento with an extremely low fuel level. Operating on fumes can cause severe engine misfires, which may permanently damage the expensive catalytic converter.

Odometer

Figure 1. Type A

Figure 2. Type B
Type B digital odometer total distance readout on a Kia Sorento instrument panel

The odometer tracks and displays the cumulative total distance that your Kia Sorento has traveled, serving as an essential reference to determine service intervals and schedule periodic maintenance.

TIP

Outside temperature gauge

Figure 1. Type A
Type A outside air temperature display indicator on a Kia Sorento cluster
Figure 2. Type B
Type B digital outside thermometer readout on a Kia Sorento dashboard

This ambient thermal gauge indicates the current outside air temperature increments by 1°F or 1°C to help you anticipate road conditions like freezing pavement.

To prevent driver distraction from rapid value fluctuations, the temperature readout on your Kia Sorento display may update gradually rather than changing instantly like a standard thermometer.

To switch the temperature units between Fahrenheit and Celsius, navigate through the LCD instrument cluster display’s “User Settings” menu.

For more configuration instructions, refer to the LCD display modes section.
