CAUTION

  • Do not install aftermarket steering wheel covers, wraps, or thick grips, as they can severely impair heat transfer and damage the internal heating elements.

  • When cleaning the steering wheel surface, avoid harsh organic solvents such as paint thinner, benzene, rubbing alcohol, or gasoline, which can permanently ruin the leather or synthetic finish.

  • Be careful not to strike the steering wheel rim with sharp tools or keys, which can puncture the material and sever the delicate internal heating wires.

WARNING

If the steering wheel surface feels excessively hot, turn the heating system off immediately. Prolonged exposure to low-level heat sources can cause thermal skin irritation or minor burns over extended periods.

Steering wheel grip sensor (if equipped)

While driving your Kia Sorento with active Driver Assistance systems engaged, the intelligent steering wheel grip sensor continuously monitors capacitive feedback to detect whether the driver’s hands are actively holding the steering wheel, automatically displaying a Hands-off warning if grip is lost.

For more comprehensive information and troubleshooting regarding system alerts, refer to the warning and indicator lights as well as the instrument cluster LCD display messages.

NOTE

The steering wheel capacitive grip sensor may fail to operate correctly if the following precautions are disregarded:

  • Do not apply unauthorized modifications or custom wraps to the steering wheel cover.

  • Do not attach aftermarket accessories, decorative rings, or thick covers onto the rim of the steering wheel.

  • Never allow electronic devices such as laptops or tablets to rest against or contact the steering wheel rim.

  • Avoid letting metallic or conductive items—including insulated tumblers, beverage cans, or metal cases—come into contact with the steering wheel surface.

  • Prevent excessive moisture exposure, such as wet cleaning tissues, spilled liquids, or vapor from steam cleaning equipment.

If the driver is wearing heavy gloves, insulated mittens, or using steering wheel spinner knobs and non-standard attachments, the capacitive sensors may fail to detect the driver’s hands even when firmly gripping the steering wheel of your Kia Sorento.
