Kia Sorento: Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist operation
|
Press and hold the physical Parking Safety button (
) located on your Kia Sorento console
for
more than two consecutive seconds to manually toggle the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system ON or
OFF.
When the sophisticated Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system detects an impending risk of a collision with rearward pedestrians or physical obstacles, it immediately triggers an acoustic chime, pulses the steering wheel via haptic feedback, and projects an urgent warning message onto your digital instrument cluster. If your vehicle is equipped with an active Surround View Monitor, a corresponding safety alert also appears instantly on your infotainment display screen.
Should the calculated collision probability escalate to an immediate emergency level, the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist mechanism takes direct control of your Kia Sorento braking system to arrest forward or backward momentum.
Access the Backward Safety option within the Parking Safety menu on your infotainment screen to ensure the collision avoidance system is fully enabled under the following mandatory operating conditions:
All vehicle doors and the rear liftgate are securely closed.
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is completely disengaged and released.
The transmission gear selector is shifted firmly into R (Reverse).
Your vehicle speed remains strictly below 6 mph (10 km/h) when scanning for pedestrians.
Your vehicle speed stays below 1 mph (4 km/h) when monitoring stationary or moving physical objects.
All essential Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist components, including the wide-rear view camera and rear ultrasonic sensors, are functioning under normal operational parameters.
|
When the Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist successfully initializes and activates, a distinct boundary line emerges along the lower perimeter of your vehicle graphic inside the instrument cluster.
TIP
The Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist feature executes its active monitoring cycle once per engagement after shifting into R (Reverse). To trigger the system anew, you must shift out of reverse into another gear before selecting R (Reverse) again.
If the Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist identifies a potential conflict between your Kia Sorento and a rear pedestrian or structural obstacle, it provides an audible warning tone accompanied by a descriptive notification on the instrument cluster. If your central infotainment display is powered ON, the warning is simultaneously mirrored on the screen.
When a collision hazard becomes critical, the system applies active braking intervention to assist you.
This automated braking assistance automatically disengages after a duration of 5 minutes, at which point you must immediately depress the foot brake pedal and manually verify your driving environment.
Furthermore, automated braking support releases immediately if any of the following operational triggers occur:
You shift the transmission gear selector into P (Park) or D (Drive).
You manually apply the vehicle foot brakes with sufficient hydraulic pressure.
You clear the active warning alert by shifting into P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive).
TIP
If automated braking control concludes after 5 minutes while your Kia Sorento is reversing, the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) engages automatically to hold the vehicle securely in place.
