Kia Sorento: Gauges. Transmission shift indicator
The precision instrument gauges on your Kia Sorento provide real-time operational data, displaying vehicle velocity, engine performance metrics, fuel status, and thermal conditions to keep you fully informed while driving.
|
|
The speedometer clearly shows your current driving speed and is dual-calibrated to display metrics in both miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h) depending on your regional preferences.
|
|
The tachometer measures and displays the approximate speed of your engine in revolutions per minute (rpm).
Monitor the tachometer closely to select optimal gear shift points, ensuring smooth acceleration and preventing engine lugging or excessive revving.
NOTE
Never operate the engine while the tachometer needle is sustained within the red warning zone. Doing so can cause severe mechanical engine failure.
|
|
This thermal gauge displays the operational temperature of your engine coolant whenever the ENGINE START/STOP ignition button is switched to the ON position.
NOTE
If the gauge indicator needle moves past the normal operating zone toward the “H” (Hot) marker, it signals engine overheating that risks major internal damage.
Never continue driving if your engine is overheating. Pull over safely and refer to the vehicle manual instructions for dealing with an overheated engine.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Pressurized coolant can erupt and cause severe scalding burns. Always wait until the engine cools down completely before inspecting or topping off coolant levels in the reservoir.
|
|
This precision gauge displays the approximate amount of fuel remaining in your Kia Sorento fuel tank, helping you monitor your driving range effectively.
TIP
More comprehensive information regarding total fuel tank capacity and approved fuel grades can be found in the recommended lubricants and capacities section.
The fuel gauge features an integrated low fuel warning light that illuminates automatically when the fuel tank level drops near empty.
When driving on steep inclines or sharp curves, the fuel gauge pointer may temporarily fluctuate, and the low fuel warning light might activate earlier than expected due to fuel shifting inside the tank.
CAUTION
Fuel gauge
Allowing your vehicle to run completely out of fuel places all occupants in dangerous roadside situations.
You must safely pull over and obtain additional fuel as soon as possible if the low fuel warning indicator turns on or when the gauge needle approaches the “E” (Empty) mark.
NOTE
Avoid driving your Kia Sorento with an extremely low fuel level. Operating on fumes can cause severe engine misfires, which may permanently damage the expensive catalytic converter.
|
|
The odometer tracks and displays the cumulative total distance that your Kia Sorento has traveled, serving as an essential reference to determine service intervals and schedule periodic maintenance.
Odometer display range: 0–999,999 miles or 0–1,599,999 kilometers.
|
|
The distance to empty calculator estimates the remaining driving range based on your current fuel level and recent driving efficiency.
Distance range capability: 1–9,999 miles or 1–9,999 kilometers.
If the estimated driving range drops below 1 mile (1.6 km), the trip computer will display dashes (“---”) in place of the mileage value.
When the remaining fuel level is above three-quarters, you must add more than 0.8 gallons (3 liters) of fuel for the gauge and range to update. When the fuel level is below three-quarters, adding more than 1.6 gallons (6 liters) is required to trigger a register change.
TIP
If your Kia Sorento is parked on a severe slope or if vehicle battery power has been temporarily disconnected, the distance to empty calculation may temporarily display inaccurate estimates.
The calculated driving range is only an approximation and may differ from your actual physical driving distance.
The trip computer may fail to register newly added fuel if you pour in fewer than 1.6 gallons (6 liters) during a quick refueling stop.
Overall fuel economy and distance estimates can vary significantly depending on fluctuating weather conditions, aggressive driving styles, and the mechanical health of your vehicle.

This ambient thermal gauge indicates the current outside air temperature increments by 1°F or 1°C to help you anticipate road conditions like freezing pavement.
Operating temperature measurement range: -40°F–140°F (-40°C–60°C).
To prevent driver distraction from rapid value fluctuations, the temperature readout on your Kia Sorento display may update gradually rather than changing instantly like a standard thermometer.
To switch the temperature units between Fahrenheit and Celsius, navigate through the LCD instrument cluster display’s “User Settings” menu.
For more configuration instructions, refer to the LCD display modes section.
The transmission shift indicator clearly shows currently engaged gear information, varying slightly depending on whether your Kia Sorento features an automatic or dual-clutch transmission layout.
