Kia Sorento (MQ4, 2021-2026) Owner's Manual / Controls and Features / Fingerprint authentication system : (if equipped)

The advanced fingerprint authentication system integrated into your Kia Sorento provides secure, biometric access, allowing you to instantly retrieve customized personal driver profiles, unlock your private settings, and securely exit valet mode using a pre-enrolled biometric touch.

Fingerprint authentication system settings

To leverage this biometric technology, the primary driver must first enroll their unique fingerprint directly into their dedicated driver profile. You can conveniently register, configure, or delete authorized fingerprints through the central infotainment interface of your Kia Sorento by following the onscreen navigation steps:

Enrolling your fingerprint

Kia Sorento center console fingerprint sensor location used for biometric driver identification
  1. Locate the integrated biometric scanner on your Kia Sorento.

  1. Turn the vehicle ON to activate the onboard electrical systems.
  2. Tap Setup > User profile > Driver 1 > Fingerprint identification > Set/delete fingerprint > Set directly on the infotainment system screen of your Kia Sorento.
  3. Gently place the finger you wish to register onto the dedicated fingerprint sensor (1) following the onscreen instructions. Avoid pressing down with excessive force, as heavy pressure can cause the biometric authentication attempt to fail.
  4. Carefully follow the visual prompts, shifting and placing different sections of your fingerprint across the sensor surface until the scanning sequence is fully finished.
  5. Once the scanning phase concludes successfully, a Saving fingerprint notification will appear on the display, confirming that your biometric data has been stored in your Kia Sorento.

When the vehicle finishes registering your biometric template, the infotainment system will clearly display the updated operational status.

  6. The fingerprint enrollment procedure will be immediately canceled if any of the following interruption events occur:
    • You navigate away or alter the current infotainment system screen layout.

    • You cycle the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON or OFF position.

    • You shift the transmission gear selector and begin driving your Kia Sorento.

    TIP

Infotainment software interfaces and menu layouts may evolve following official software updates. For additional details, consult the digital manual built into your Kia Sorento infotainment system as well as your quick reference guide.

Deleting your fingerprint

  1. Access the settings menu by tapping Setup > User profile > Driver 1 > Fingerprint identification > Set/delete fingerprint > Delete on the infotainment system screen of your Kia Sorento.
  2. Confirm the deletion request when the system prompts you with the message "Delete all Driver 1 fingerprints?".
  3. Once the stored biometric data is successfully erased, the infotainment screen will display the updated profile status.

    NOTE

    • If no valid fingerprints are registered within the infotainment memory, the biometric sensor will remain inactive.

    • A strict maximum of 2 fingerprints can be stored at one time, allowing Driver 1 and Driver 2 to register 1 fingerprint each in your Kia Sorento.

    • Ensure all foreign substances, dirt, or protective plastic films are completely removed from the fingerprint sensor before attempting to enroll or delete biometric data.

    • The fingerprint management process will automatically cancel if any of the following occur:

      • You alter the active infotainment display screen.

      • You press the ENGINE START/STOP button to turn the ignition ON or OFF.

      • You shift gears and move the vehicle.

    CAUTION

Never allow unauthorized individuals to copy or duplicate your registered fingerprint.

    NOTE

Always touch the biometric sensor smoothly and gently. Applying too much physical force can obstruct proper scanning and lead to authentication errors.

    TIP

System menus are subject to change following updates. Refer to your onboard digital manual for further guidance.
