Kia Sorento: Fingerprint authentication system : (if equipped)The advanced fingerprint authentication system integrated into your Kia Sorento provides secure, biometric access, allowing you to instantly retrieve customized personal driver profiles, unlock your private settings, and securely exit valet mode using a pre-enrolled biometric touch.
To leverage this biometric technology, the primary driver must first enroll their unique fingerprint directly into their dedicated driver profile. You can conveniently register, configure, or delete authorized fingerprints through the central infotainment interface of your Kia Sorento by following the onscreen navigation steps:
|
|
When the vehicle finishes registering your biometric template, the infotainment system will clearly display the updated operational status.
You navigate away or alter the current infotainment system screen layout.
You cycle the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON or OFF position.
You shift the transmission gear selector and begin driving your Kia Sorento.
TIP
Infotainment software interfaces and menu layouts may evolve following official software updates. For additional details, consult the digital manual built into your Kia Sorento infotainment system as well as your quick reference guide.
NOTE
If no valid fingerprints are registered within the infotainment memory, the biometric sensor will remain inactive.
A strict maximum of 2 fingerprints can be stored at one time, allowing Driver 1 and Driver 2 to register 1 fingerprint each in your Kia Sorento.
Ensure all foreign substances, dirt, or protective plastic films are completely removed from the fingerprint sensor before attempting to enroll or delete biometric data.
The fingerprint management process will automatically cancel if any of the following occur:
You alter the active infotainment display screen.
You press the ENGINE START/STOP button to turn the ignition ON or OFF.
You shift gears and move the vehicle.
CAUTION
Never allow unauthorized individuals to copy or duplicate your registered fingerprint.
NOTE
Always touch the biometric sensor smoothly and gently. Applying too much physical force can obstruct proper scanning and lead to authentication errors.
TIP
System menus are subject to change following updates. Refer to your onboard digital manual for further guidance.
Enjoy seamless convenience features inside your Kia Sorento, such as instant personal information access, automatic driver profile unlocking, and effortless valet mode exit using the advanced biometric authentication system.
Whenever the fingerprint prompt icon appears on the infotainment screen of your Kia Sorento, place your finger onto the vehicle recognition sensor as instructed to complete quick authorization. This allows you to activate linked preferences without manually typing a security password. If the sensor fails to recognize your touch on the first try, lift your finger completely and try scanning again.
You can easily enable or disable fingerprint-linked features directly through the vehicle configuration menu.
Navigate to Setup > User profile > Driver 1 (or Driver 2) > Fingerprint identification to manage your preferences.

NOTE
You cannot assign the exact same fingerprint profile to both Driver 1 and Driver 2 simultaneously in your Kia Sorento. Personalization syncs exclusively with the most recently linked profile, automatically overriding and unlinking any previous assignments.
TIP
Software revisions may alter certain menu structures over time. Check your quick reference guide if necessary.
The biometric authentication system in your Kia Sorento may occasionally fail or refuse to operate under the following conditions:
Attempting authorization using an unprogrammed or unregistered fingerprint.
Failing to place your finger squarely over the center of the sensor area.
Having your fingerprint obscured by dirt, moisture, or foreign matter.
Leaving the sensor window blocked or dirty.
Leaving a protective manufacturing film attached over the scanner surface.
Having an altered fingerprint due to cuts, severe dry skin, swelling, or calluses.
Having excessively dry skin that fails to register conductive contact.
Tapping or swiping across the sensor too quickly for the scanner to capture.
If biometric verification fails consecutively more than 5 times, enrollment and deletion tools may experience a brief security lockout. Wait a moment before trying again, or use an alternative login method like your PIN password.
Visiting an authorized Kia service center for repairs involving biometric components may result in your saved fingerprints being cleared. Always bring your physical smart key fob along when visiting a dealer.
The fingerprint scanner will remain completely inactive if the vehicle battery is severely discharged or dead.
Cycling the ignition power ON or OFF mid-authorization will immediately abort the active fingerprint routine.
WARNING
Never register children's fingerprints into your Kia Sorento profile memory. Allowing children biometric access inside the cabin can lead to unintended vehicle settings adjustments or unexpected safety hazards.
If you have recently acquired a pre-owned Kia Sorento, always inspect the profile settings and permanently delete any legacy fingerprints remaining stored under the previous Driver 1 and Driver 2 accounts to secure your personal data.
