Curtain airbags are installed securely along both interior roof rails, stretching overhead above the front and rear entry doors of the cabin.

Curtain airbags shield occupants during severe side impacts and dramatically minimize passenger ejection risks during rollover accidents, particularly when combined with properly fastened seat belts.

• Curtain airbags deploy during qualifying lateral collisions, scaled dynamically to match impact severity, collision angle, vehicle speed, and precise strike location.

• Curtain airbags can trigger on the direct side of impact or deploy on both sides of the cabin depending on crash dynamics.

• Both left and right curtain airbags deploy automatically during certified rollover trajectories.

• Curtain airbags do not deploy during every side collision or minor tipping event.

• Never allow passengers to lean their heads or torsos against side doors, extend arms along door trim, stick arms or hands out windows, or position objects between door panels and seated occupants in rows equipped with side and curtain airbags.

Air bag sensors

• Do not strike, kick, or allow heavy objects to impact the sensitive areas of your Kia Sorento where airbags or internal electronic sensors are installed. Unintentional mechanical shock can trigger unexpected airbag deployment, leading to severe personal injury or fatal consequences.

• If the mounting location, bracket alignment, or physical angle of any collision sensor is altered in any way, the airbags may malfunction—deploying prematurely when unnecessary or failing to inflate during a critical crash. Never attempt DIY maintenance or repairs around airbag sensors. Always have the vehicle inspected and serviced exclusively by an authorized Kia dealership.

• Do not touch or tamper with the front impact sensors arbitrarily. Altering the calibrated angle of these precision components can cause the entire supplemental restraint system to malfunction during an accident.

Altering sensor installation angles as a result of body panel deformation, front bumper damage, front end module shifts, or front door impacts near side collision sensors can severely impair system reliability. Always have your Kia Sorento thoroughly inspected and professionally repaired by an authorized Kia technician after any collision.

Installing aftermarket bumper guards, tubular side steps, running boards, or replacing factory bumpers and front door modules with non-genuine components can negatively impact collision response metrics and compromise your Kia Sorento airbag deployment performance.
