Kia Sorento: Care of seat beltsSeat belt assemblies and internal retractor hardware should never be disassembled, modified, or altered. Take constant care to ensure that seat belt webbing and metal latch buckles are not slammed in doors, pinched in folding seat hinges, or subjected to mechanical abuse.
WARNING
Pinched seat belt
Always verify that the seat belt webbing and buckle latch are clear before returning folding rear seatbacks to their upright, locked positions in your Kia Sorento. If the belt webbing or buckle housing becomes caught or pinched in the folding seat latch mechanism, the fabric fibers can become damaged, potentially causing the restraint system to fail during a collision or emergency braking maneuver.
CAUTION
Seat belt buckles and metal latches can become extremely hot when the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight with the windows closed. Always inspect and handle metal buckles with care before securing infants or young children to prevent accidental skin burns.
Periodic inspection
All seat belt webbings, buckles, anchors, and retractors in your Kia Sorento should be inspected periodically for signs of fraying, wear, cuts, or mechanical damage. Any worn or damaged restraint components must be replaced immediately by an authorized service center.
Keep belts clean and dry
Seat belt webbing must be kept clean and dry to preserve its structural integrity. Clean contaminated webbing using a mild soap solution mixed with warm water. Never apply bleach, chemical dyes, harsh industrial detergents, or abrasive cleaners, as these substances can chemically degrade the synthetic fabric fibers and severely weaken the seat belt strength.
When to replace seat belts
The complete seat belt assembly must be replaced if your Kia Sorento has been involved in a crash, even if visible damage to the webbing, retractor, or buckle is not immediately apparent. Internal component stress can weaken restraint capability. Any additional technical questions regarding seat belt maintenance should be directed to an authorized Kia dealer.
